As someone who loves to tell stories through the photographs I make, I have taken a few thousand photos in Tanzania - and hundreds in our project area. My prints depict life and people as I see them. You can view some of them at www.projectembo.org
In February 2006, I took 15 disposable cameras to Longido and Kimokouwa and gave them to men and women in the villages. Most of these people had never held a camera before. After one hour of instruction, everyone had 24 hours to take pictures of whatever they wanted the world to know about them and life in their villages. The result was a few hundred photos, some good, others clearly the work of people with a brand new object in their hands. The grainy quality added to the story.
These pages contain a sampling of those photographs. They appear exactly as they were taken - I have not altered them in any way. I have added captions to provide a context for the photos. I hope you enjoy this glimpse of life in two mainly Maasai villages in northern Tanzania.
